The Portland Trailblazers are going with youth at center in 2012-13
24-year old J.J. Hickson was re-signed over the summer and he will likely open the 2012-13 season as the starting center on the Blazers. Hickson played in 54 games (19 starts) for the Kings and Blazers last year and he averaged 23.0 minutes, 8.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He has now played in 277 games (158 starts) in his first four years in the NBA and he is averaging 21.3 minutes, 9.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Hickson played pretty well for the Blazers last season, so they have high hopes for him. 20-year old Meyers Leonard came to the Trailblazers in the first round of last June’s NBA Draft. Leonard played in 65 games in his two years at Illinois and he averaged 19.8 minutes, 7.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.1 blocked shots per game.
